New art up of Ix Chel, the Maya Moon Goddess

Well, I finally finished it! My painting/drawing of three of the aspects of Ix Chel, the Maya Moon, Rainbow, Water, Childbirth and Weaving Goddess. The detail pic at left is Her aspect of Chak Chel, the Old Midwive who destroyed the world in a great flood, thereby allowing it to be reborn into our current age. Check out the entire work here!

That is a gorgeous picture. The colors are so vibrant--all I could think was how I would love to have that painting on my wall. Good job, and thanks.

Are they done in watercolor or oils? I paint, too, but I haven't got a developed body of work yet. I'm having a creative block. I even got a new set of egg tempera paints for Yule, and can't get myself to open them.

I really love your work! So inspired!

It's in watercolor pencil, which is why I'm not sure whether it's a drawing or a painting. :) The colors were inspired by some murals in Cacaxtla that aren't technically Maya but are in the Maya style; mostly they are that bright red and turquoise blue, either the red or blue being the background. Very bright!

Morgaine, I find the best things to do to break artist's block are to 1) not stress about it--worrying about it or banging my head because of it just tends to solidify a block for me, 2) do something else creative but not so high pressure, like cooking or knitting or sewing, and 3) just doodle. The particular style the Goddess cards are done in came from me diddling around in my sketchbook having fun, and with no expectations.

I know also that for me these things definitely come in waves--I'll do no art for the longest time, then next thing I know I'm doing 8 paintings at once! (Like right about now, lol)

Anyway, hope some of that helps.

for the support. I'm just so critical of myself. I hate half the stuff I do.

BTW - I think they're paintings.
