Well, I did it. I finally did it.

Two weeks ago, I moved into a new apartment. When I picked up the change of address form from the DMV, the second page was a voter's registration form.

I have officially left the Democratic party. I registered as a Green voter. Now, if I could just find the stamps in one of these boxes so I can get it mailed.....

I am re-registering as an independent myself. I still need to mail in my form though.

I read that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was an independent until he found out that that associated him with the independent party. You might want to check into that. It might be better to go Green, to make your progressive postion clear. If you register independent, people think you are undecided about Dems and Repugs. As a Green, you are saying that the Dems have gone too far right for you. Just a thought...

I wrote a bit earlier this month on something called American Solidarity (see a summary of the discussion here, and some of my own thoughts here. The idea behind it, as a cat named Cernig at Newshog describes, is for something independent along the lines of Poland's Solidarity Union which was eventually successful in fighting the Stalinist government that ruled Poland. There's much to be said for organizing and acting outside and independent of the Dem party as it's much more often than not part of the problem.
