This is great. The press corps gives Scotty "Arf Arf" McClellan the grilling of a lifetime. And they're royally pissed. All Scotty can do is babble endlessly about not "playing the blame game."

I truly needed this. The spin is already being spun, the buck is NOT going to stop at Bush's desk, and if any heads roll it will probably be only those of exhausted ground-level gov't workers who couldn't possibly rescue an entire city single-handedly.

For the last 2 years I've watched in amazement and dismay as the bar for acceptable presidential fucking-up is set lower and lower. I thought, "well, over 1500 soldiers have died now in Iraq--is he going to be accountable for that?" The answer of course is no, and now there are over 1800 American casualties, 3 years into the war to nowhere. And then the Downing Street Memos were leaked, and I thought for sure this would be his undoing. But he managed to shake it off and go on about his merry way.

Camp Casey? Just ignore the "bitch in the ditch" and she'll eventually go away. Have a game of golf, play some guitar, make some jokes.

Now I hear casualty figures as high as 40,000! 40,000 dead! Is Bush going to be held accountable, finally? In the immortal words of Joe Welch during the Army-McCarthy hearings, "have you no decency? At long last, sir, have you no decency?"

No, no decency. I can only shake my head. For the millionth time I consider fleeing the country. I hear Guadalajara is nice this time of year.
