I didn't do the poll cuz none of the choices really fit for me, but I sure have noticed how many good pieces here go uncommented on. So. I asked myself, "Me? Why don't you comment more often on diaries here?" and got nuthing back but a dumb stare. I really don't know why I don't! But I am going to try to change that..because if we don't support each other by commenting and getting discussions going, who else is going to find it interesting enough to participate?

Sometimes I wonder though about the "too many good blogs" factor. My favorite blog list is literally bulging at the seams. No way are there enough hours in the day to follow discussions and participate everywhere I want to and still exist in three dimensional life too.

Mayve it'd be good to discuss again..(at this point in time)..how much committment we all share, in growing this one? And how we see this evolving from here?

I'm a little afraid of that conversation, 'cuz I truly do enjoy this site. I've been bragging about it to friends and family, trying to get everyone from my coworkers to my grandmother involved...

OTOH, my blogroll at bloglines is currently carrying 22 blogs, and after being told off for reading them at work, I have less time to read them in. I've dropped a few to get down to that number, but some, like Pandagon and Feministing, are frequently updated and generate a number of posts daily.

And here, as well, I see some people who have more time than I do posting more often than I do, and I really hope that no-one's trying to be "fair" about commenting only on people who have commented to them or trying to comment less often so that other voices are heard.... I hope that made sense, it's still early for me.

I think perhaps the biggest obstacle to more comments is that right now, there's still just a core group who post and comment... if you look at the recent comments/blogs/news clips along the side, you'll see certain names over and over again... and once each of those names has commented on a particular post, there's little need to comment again until another of those names replies.... so what can we do go grow that group of core members who are active?

I'm in the middle of a couple of busy weeks...

... I've been criticized for blogging too much from work, so I have to wait until I get home

... my little brother just got married, so my weekend was spent preparing for or attending his wedding

... my best friend gets married this next weekend, and I'm spending a large part of this week helping her stay sane

And there's been enough content turnover in the midst of all of this that I keep thinking "Oh, I"ll come back and comment on that when I have more than just a couple of minutes" ... and then I lose track of the post or it scrolls away before I get back to it or I just forget what I was going to say.

I'll be back when life calms down a bit, and really try to comment... I know how disappointing it is to only get a couple of comments to what you thought was a pretty good post....

I don't comment much at *any* blog, though I have posted a handful comments here. That being said... a lot of the posts here are very short and informational. They speak for themselves.

I've noticed when it comes to commenting there are two types of posts that end up with the most discussion... Ones that are controversial, and on the edge of just plain disagreeable... and lame memes.

I dunno.

But... I'd say that a lot of people are reading, even without commenting.

I haven't commented because I added this feed at a time when I added many others, so I was a bit overwhelmed. Then, I would get somewhat motivated to comment; then see that I had to register to comment. Registration seemed like a bit too much bother to just add my .02. Registration was added to my to-do when I have more time list. Of course, now, obviously I have registered. I have to say I am glad I did because there is value in registering outside of just being able to comment. On top of that...it was a quick and PAINLESS registration. I didn't need to tattoo my first born with your logo or anything.

I'm gonna have some explaining to do to my first-born when she asks where that logo on her forehead came from ;)

we started off allowing anyone to comment but on the second day some jerk told me to "iron my shirt, bitch". at that point we decided to require registration. you know, in a perfect world, you wouldn't have to register. that jerk blew it for us all, didn't he?

anyway, glad you joined, and welcome!
